So I'm watching The Antiques Roadshow one Sunday, while stuffing my face with delicious chicken, and there's a bit on Thomas Chippendale. Bear with me.
Basically, according to the old-stuff boffins at the afore mentioned Roadshow, he's only really famous because of one thing.
He released a book of drawings of his furniture.
Apparently, that's it. Don't get me wrong, he was a choice chippy, but the thing that made him the legend that he is, is his book.
Could this be the first example of successful Open Source in a modern(ish) commercial market? At the time his peers though he was utterly mental for releasing publicly, to anyone who cared to pick up his book, what would normally be considered trade secrets.
Sounds pretty familiar...

I'm taking suggestions for the most annoying advert on TV.
Top of the list at the moment is the Mercedes C-Class ad.
Soundbytes from a 'design team' seemingly composed of utter tossers, spouting off such cringe-inducing shite as "lets do it!" and "I'll see your idea and raise it!".
Seriously, who says things like this? Who sits in a meeting, and comes out with "I'll see your idea and raise it"?
To be honest, it wouldn't bother me that much, but the look of the C-Class is a bit, umm, uninspiring. Actually, maybe that really is what the design meetings were like. A collection of pretentious uber-wanks vying to out-do each other with ever more smug snippets of verbal ponce.

God I hate that advert.

I'm late to the party again, but I just found Behind The Counter, and it's really interesting. My dearest mother is the sort who takes 8 oranges back to Sainsbury's, cause one's got a dent in it, and complains because Morrisons don't stock the same variety of cheese that Safeway did before they were bought out. At least she always has the receipt...

Also, and this has annoyed me for a while, when I'm reading blogs or forums (fora?) by default I assume the writer / poster is male, only to have my mental construct of the person shattered when it turns out that he is a she.
Does anyone else get this? Do women assume the author is female, and men male? Or is it just me?
It's just me isn't it?
Yeah.

How was your Sunday?
Mine was about a 3 star.

Remember Roy Orbison In Clingfilm? Well now there's a book.
Magic.
